I really wish that musical theater didn't involve dancing. It would make my life SO much easier!
So I made Guys and Dolls call backs and was very excited about it. I sang Adelaides Lament for Broadway NATS last year and won second place so I was very excited to try out. So I got to call backs this morning and they had all the women that were called back for the role of Sarah sing. About 3 of the probably 15 girls up there did a good job the rest were OK. So I was thinking to myself, "I think I have a great shot at Adelaide, too bad she has to dance so much. At least we get to sing first!" Well no such luck. While the Sarahs finished they sent the Adelaides into the other building to dance. I figured that this was good because I would have more time to practice. The room we practiced in was FREEZING. This was not good for my muscles that haven't seen more than a few minutes on the treadmile over that last 6 weeks. But...I felt OK about the dance. I did the steps when I should and tried to be animated to make up for what I lacked in cordination. We went back into the other room to read and sing but then the director decided she wanted to see us dance first. Grrr....So we danced and they sent about 10 of us home and only kept 5 to read and sing for Adelaide. I'm sure that even if I had read and sang first that once they saw me dance I would have not gotten the part but at least I could have showed them my strengthes rather than my weeknesses. Oh, well. Life goes on and Sandy is doing West Side Story in concert so and auditions are in a week or so. I figure that there won't be much dancing involved with that because they are doing it "in concert". Now all I have to do is get a spray on tan, dye my hair black and try to act Puerte Rican.
About Me
- Becky
- I started out as a daughter and sister. Then things progressed and suddenly I was also a young child and a friend. As I grew I became a teen who was boy crazy and also enjoyed singing and performing in musicals. For a brief time I was a college student and then a newlywed. I enjoyed working in the "real world" as a claims adjuster's assistant. Then out of nowhere I was suddenly grown up and taking on the most challenging role of my life, Mother of 4. Now the time has come for the role of daughter to join the main players at center stage with the additional of the title, "caregiver".

Bummer tryouts didn't go as well as you hoped! I hate the dancing part of musicals too. And with your foot that would have been no fun! Are you out of the boot now?
