Max's new favorite color is...

Yellow!

My first thoughts about paying $40 for a belt review were not very positive. I wasn't sure it was even possible for a 6 year old to get his yellow belt plus $40 is a lot for a belt that he may or may not get. I've never spent more than $10 on a belt before. But...Max was so excited and the more I thought about it I realized that a belt review for him is like a vocal recital for me and how could I deny him that?

In the days leading up to it Max was very nervous. On Thursday night (the review was Friday night) Max actually had a dream that he got his yellow belt and that is all he could talk about all day. I was very nervous for him once we got there because the other two white belts were much older than him so I honestly didn't think he had a chance.

At the end of the review they had all of them kneel down and close their eyes and then they set a belt in front of them. I was SO excited to see them set one in front of Max! Then the boys had to (with their eyes closed) reach forward and get their new belt and put it on. That was the hardest part for Max. He couldn't get his white belt off so he finally just loosened it and stepped out of it like you would a skirt. His teacher just looked at us and laughed. Then he had to try and tie the new belt on which is hard enough for him with his eyes opened. It was really kind of fun to watch him. He was trying so hard and he kept peaking so he KNEW he had gotten his yellow belt. Watching him try to put his belt on with his eyes closed and being FULL of excitement was really funny!

We were so proud of him that we took him out for dinner (we still would have taken him if he didn't get it.). He tells everyone he sees that he is now a yellow belt.

Oh and when we got home he wanted to show my mom his new belt so he went barging in and yelled, "Yellow belt comin' through!"
