Elese was so excited for her "play". Her ballet studio put on Pinocchio. Steven was at scout camp that week so he wasn't able to come.
The dress rehearsal was on the 18th. This was my first outing on my own with the baby and other children. Max was somewhere - I can't remember where. So it we me and the other three. We had to park a little bit far away. So there I was - completely out of shape after having a baby - pushing a stroller up a semi-big hill - trying to keep Sam from running in the road and moving as quick as I could so we wouldn't be late. Once we got there they were running a little behind. Because I had to pay the meter to park there I was stressing that I was going to get a ticket. I knew I needed to feed the meter and I didn't have very much change. It was a pain. Olivia was asleep in the stroller and I started leaking milk so that was cool. Eventually I asked a mom who I trust to watch her and Elese while Sam and I ran to feed the meter. He wanted me to carry him and I ran as fast as I could. When I got back Elese had gone back stage to get ready to go on stage. Then Olivia woke up crying so I discretely fed her. I made her stop so I could run up and take a photo of Elese which didn't turn out because it's hard to hold a baby - chase a 2 year old and take a photo. Not to mention that the lighting on a stage isn't great for taking pictures. That was when I noticed I had put her costume on backwards.
After the rehearsal we were heading out when Elese told me that she had gotten in trouble because she was wearing socks. Yep - I was totally rocking this mother of 4 thing.
The next evening was the big day. Elese was nervous because she was afraid she would make mistakes. I
told her that it would be ok if she made a mistake and we prayed that
she would do her best and feel good about her performance. She looked so cute with her costume on the correct way.
My mom - Olivia and I went to watch while Steven's mom babysat the boys. Elese had to go back stage and I had to find a parking spot so I sent my mom with her. I was a little worried because my mom struggles with her memory. I told her where to meet me - parked the car and fed Olivia and then made the walk up to Kingsbury hall. I tried calling my mom but she wouldn't answer. It ended up that her phone battery had died but fortunately I saw her. When we were going in I thought I should go through one door but I went through another one. Then I was told that I needed a ticket for the baby because of fire code. I had been warned about this so I wasn't too upset...yet. Then I went and bought a ticket and we went through the door I originally thought I should have and the lady wondered why I had a ticket. ugh. Olivia was amazing during the performance! She wasn't even a month old and she would not just lay and let me hold her like a baby! She must have been able to see the lights and hear the music because she sat there awake - happy and trying to see past the heads of people in front of us. I kept thinking it was going to be Elese's dance soon but it was just never coming and Olivia needed to eat. I finally took her out to feed here and there was a TV out there. I was modest and sat on a chair in the lobby...people were giving me weird looks but I didn't care. Once I saw and heard Elese's song I snuck in the back (still modestly feeding Olivia between the curtains) and watched her dance. She did a fantastic job! She only made one or two mistakes and she only noticed one of them and she felt good about it. Once the bowed I told my mom to meet me out front and dashed out the door. Last time I had to wait inline forever and I was one of the last parents to pick up their child. I got near the front of the line. when you walk into the room they check your arm band to make suer you get the right child and then hold a mic up to your mouth so you can say your child's name so they know you are there. Then they meet you by the other door and are given a flower (which she loved) and we head home. Once again I was lucky enough to find my mom - I was worried I would loose her.
After taking my mom home (or maybe she had her car at my house and drove home? That doesn't happen anymore - we don't let her drive) we stopped at Olympus burger and got me some dinner and Elese an Oreo shake. Come to think of it - maybe Steven's mom was visiting Stephanie in Sacramento and Hailey or someone babysat...anyway that's not important. What matters is that Elese did great and LOVED her Oreo shake!
About Me
- Becky
- I started out as a daughter and sister. Then things progressed and suddenly I was also a young child and a friend. As I grew I became a teen who was boy crazy and also enjoyed singing and performing in musicals. For a brief time I was a college student and then a newlywed. I enjoyed working in the "real world" as a claims adjuster's assistant. Then out of nowhere I was suddenly grown up and taking on the most challenging role of my life, Mother of 4. Now the time has come for the role of daughter to join the main players at center stage with the additional of the title, "caregiver".
