Samuel's Baby Blessing and Grandma's 70th Birthday *May 1st, 2011

This was SUCH a busy day and a busy week. I felt like such a mean mom. I was so busy trying to get things done. I had decided that we needed to through my mom a surprise birthday party and since we were blessing Sam on her birthday it was the perfect decoy. I just didn't really think through the fact that I would have a 4 week old baby and be planning a post blessing dinner AND a surprise birthday party. Not to mention hat I also took on the task of creating a photo book of my mom's life history. That never happened though because mid-project my computer crashed and I lost it all so all of my secretive trips to my mom's for photos and journals were for not. Plus Steven was out of town for work in the day's leading up to the blessing/birthday party. The day before my mom called to check on my and offered to come and hold Sam, I told her that I was fine (because I was in the middle of baking her cake) but in truth I was about ready to loose it. Anyway...I told my mom that I felt bad that we weren't doing anything great for her birthday but she did think that it was pretty great to have her Grandson blessed on her birthday and she even bore her testimony. Steven gave a very nice blessing and I even recorded it on my cell phone so I will have to type it out sometime (8/6/13 just re-reading this-I don't have that phone anymore and I never typed it :( ). After the blessing we had everyone over for sloppy joes. It was a great choice because I just stuck it in the crock pot and once people arrived we were ready to go.

My niece and her husband along with my brother and his wife "had to leave early" so they ate and ran to my mom's to set up for the surprise and let the guests inside. Blake gave my mom a ride to the blessing and so he got to be in charge of making sure that she didn't get to her house too early or too late. At one point my mom said, "Well, I guess we should be going." and it was too early for her to leave so Blake chimed in and said, "I haven't even gotten to hold my name sake yet so we aren't going to leave yet!" Once they left Steven and I kicked out all of our other guests and headed over to my moms. It was a GREAT turn out and she was SO surprised. We had invited her cousins that she rarely see's and her Sister-in-Law and Brother-in-Law drove down from Idaho and her sister came up from Nevada. Unfortunately we missed the big reveal because we couldn't leave our own party before my mom. Everyone visited and ate cake and other desserts. We didn't stay too long because it had been a very long day. Steven drew a family cartoon picture for my mom and as always she loved it. It was a very fun and very busy day.
