Steven was promoting a House Boat giveaway for work and we got to tag along. This was one of my favorite trips that we've done.
Tuesday May 22nd
We headed down after school. Samuel didn't like the long ride and did a lot of crying. We stopped at a McDonalds with a play place to help all of them get their wiggles out. Once we got there Steven needed to find our boat. We were the first ones to arrive. Samuel and I stayed by the car while Steven and the kids went to find our boat. They had some carts to use for transporting your luggage...we used it to transport our kids. Once we got on the boat Samuel started checking things out. He was thrilled to learn that the cupboards on the boat were not baby proofed. One of his favorite things is to open cupboards, take everything out and then pretend to cook up something yummy. There was only one room (the master bedroom) that had enough space for the porta-crib. Fortunately, Chad and Ria were kind enough to let us take it. Once the kids were in bed Steven and I tried to get the TV to work but we couldn't so we played DrawSomething. I had a hard time sleeping. I have a fear of water and all the water sloshing around while I tried to sleep kept putting me in panic mode. At one point Max woke up and after that I slept better. I think it helped for me to know that the kids were ok.
Wednesday May 23rd
The day started out with the kids exploring the upper deck of the boat and they thought it was super cool. Once we headed out to find our spot Steven went in the speed boat with our kind host whose name I can't remember but he did look a lot like Jay Leno. They went on a little adventure into an area that the boat could barely fit. They eventually had to get out and walked on the rocks before backing the boat out. I had some fun chatting with Ria on the deck while Samuel slept and then also got to spend some one-on-one time with Samuel. He was SUCH a good boy on this trip. I think he enjoyed having freedom and being outside all the time. While the guys were docking the boat on our own personal beach the kids climbed and played in the dirt and loved it! Once we got the boat docked (which was a pain) Steven took the kids for a PWC ride and then we BBQed for dinner. Showered and put the kids to bed. The we all stayed on the top deck chatting while Chad sleepworked. Tyler was there with his Grandpa Larry. It was a lot of fun just sitting in the dark visiting. It was a very windy night and I had a harder time sleeping than the night before.
Thursday May 24th
Steven cooked all of us breakfast in the morning and then it was time to get working. He had tried to film his dutch oven segment the day before but it was too windy so we tried again today. He had to dig a big hole and cook it in that to keep the fire going. The night before he was proud to show off his Scout Mastering skills because it was a one match fire...that eventually blew out because the wind blew sand on top of it. After our somewhat Sandy dutch oven meal it was time for Steven and Ria to do some water skiing. The kids and I rode in another boat with Chad and Samuel loved it. He saw Steven in the other boat and would shout "Da-da!!!" and then he would laugh and laugh. He was such a sweet happy baby on this trip. He slept and napped better than I could have dreamed of and was just so happy and content. Steven was able to get up on the skis for his first time ever...in addition to a nice face plant or two. After skiing we split up. The kids wanted to go with Steven while he filmed but Chad reminded them that they would have to be quiet so she chose to go for a boat ride with Chad, Ria, Samuel and me. Later I asked Elese if she thought that the boys were having more fun than us and she said, "No, becauce they have to be quiet." After a while Elese started getting cold so we headed back to the house boat. On the drive back Chad let her take over the wheel for a bit. She loved every minute of it and felt so grown up . Once we got back Samuel took a nap while Elese and I ate junk food and watch Snow White.
Once Steven got back he wanted to throw Max in the lake so that he could see that his
life jacket worked. Max flipped out and started screaming "I'm
drowning!!!" until we told him to calm down and that the jacket was
holding him up. After that Max was totally confident around the water.
Then we did a little more filming. He and I went Kayaking for part of it. I was terrified but I ended up loving it. It's something I would not mind doing again...as long as the water is calm and I have a life jacket on. Steven didn't want to put his swim suit on but later regretted it after the Kayak was leaking and he looked like he pees his pants. Hehe. He also convinced me to go on the PWC. I didn't love it. It was too scary and fast for me. While Steven and I were out having adventures Larry (Tyler's Grandpa) was watching Samuel. Sam doesn't like other people but as long as Larry just stood close by and watched he was happy to just play in the dirt and water. Then we hosed Samuel off (and did he HATE it!) and then headed back to the dock.
Chad told Max that he had to help Larry pilot the house boat by pointing out the different boyes. Then he told Max if he didn't that he would have to walk the plank. Max responded with "I have a life jacket on!" subtext with enormous amounts of DUH! We couldn't tow the PWC so Tyler and Steven (mostly Tyler) took turns riding it. While Steven was out playing I let the kids get in the hot tub for a bit. That thought that was awesome! Once the kids were in bed Steven and I relaxed in the hot tub on the top deck and pulled into the dock just as the sun was setting.
Friday May 25th
We woke up and packed while Steven cooked us all breakfast again and then went on a shoot. The kids and I hiked to the car to get the crib because Steven's shoot took longer than expected and we also wanted to grab a movie that had been packed. The kids and I just hung out and reasted. Then we went to the lodge for lunch/shoot. We ate while Steven filmed and Samuel kept yelling accross the resturant "Da-Da!" and laughing. After a quick shoot where we toured a family cabin we made the drive home.
This was a really fun family vacation and a great thing to do before Steven and I would be heading off to Costa Rica without the kids...more to come on that later.
About Me
- Becky
- I started out as a daughter and sister. Then things progressed and suddenly I was also a young child and a friend. As I grew I became a teen who was boy crazy and also enjoyed singing and performing in musicals. For a brief time I was a college student and then a newlywed. I enjoyed working in the "real world" as a claims adjuster's assistant. Then out of nowhere I was suddenly grown up and taking on the most challenging role of my life, Mother of 4. Now the time has come for the role of daughter to join the main players at center stage with the additional of the title, "caregiver".
