Happy Birthday Sam! (Sad day for the Heumann's) *April 5th 2013*

Sam kind of got jipped for his birthday.  Grandma Hale was leaving town to go and take care of Evan's girls in Arizona and she was leaving on his birthday.  We stopped by so Sam could open his gift from Grandma.

That was all the celebrating we did on his birthday because we were going to have dinner and a party with G&G Heumann on Sunday.  Unfortunately this was a day of bad news for the Heumann's.  Steven's sister-in-law Stephanie Heumann was diagnosed with Cancer on this day.  I will tell more about that in another post.  So because of this news Steven's parents decided to make the drive to Sacramento to spend some time with David and his family.  We were very understanding!

Saturday morning Steven's mom stopped by to give Sam his gift and informed us that her sister (Aunt Lela) had just had a heart attack.  Fortunately it was minor and she healed up quickly.  Then she and PaPa left for California. She gave Sam lots of Car's things including Car's 2 on DVD.  Sam LOVES cars and likes to snuggle (play with) them at bedtime.

Meanwhile we took advantage of conference weekend to switch up the bedrooms.  I spent the day taping up the rooms and Steven spent it taping...this continued through Sunday but we listened to conference while we did it so we aren't that horrible for working on Sunday.  I can't remember what we did...I think we had the kids have a little sleep over in the front room on Saturday night.

Sunday we finished up the rooms. Max and Elese wanted to help when we put the bunk bed together.  Steven put them both in charge of different pieces of the bed and when he needed that piece they would give it to him.

...so I guess you could say that Sam got a new bed and bedroom as his birthday gift.
Here are the bedroom before and afters...

Once we got the bedrooms all squared away Sam did a fantastic job with the transition!  When we would tell him that he was now going to sleep in a bunk bed with Max he would shake his head no but once the room was all set up he was great about staying in bed.

After the rooms were all taken care of it was time for the birthday festivities.  Sam opened his gifts from us.  We gave him some clothes and cars toys.  Then we had a cake that I bought from the store...it was yummy and Sam surprised me by blowing out the candles all on his own.  Then we had a family movie night and watched Cars 2 together.
.

Sam is the strong silent type.  He doesn't say much. Mama and Dada are pretty much the extent of his speaking at this point.  At his 2 year check up the doctor said that if his language doesn't progress much in the next 6 months to come in and see her again. Although Sam doesn't say much he makes his needs and wants very clear.  He loves his daddy and runs to the door when he gets home.  I think I may have mentioned this before but when I start cooking dinner he climbs up on the couch and watches out the window for Steven to get home.  Sam is my buddy and we spend time together resting-reading books-and watching movies-that's about as exciting as things get with me being pregnant.  We also try to go for a walk every morning after taking the kids to school.  If for some reason we don't go he points to the stroller and grunts.  Sam likes his routine and isn't happy when things don't go as planned.  He seems to understand that a baby is coming and is in my belly.  At this point I'm pretty nervious that he won't be very welcoming to the baby because like I said - he makes it very clear what he wants and sometimes it's not in the nicest ways.  Sam isn't much of a hitter but he is pretty forceful by grabbing and pulling my hand to take him where he wants to go.  He also hates getting his hair cut.  Love this boy and his strong personality!

Sam loves playing on the swings and pushing the stroller around the yard.  One day Max climbed in the stroller and let Sam push him around the yard.  Sam is very lucky to have a big brother and sister who love him and will play with him in the yard when I'm working on dinner.
